San Diego, CA (Oct. 1, 2021) - San Diego Loyal SC (SD Loyal) announced today it has acquired Blake Bodily on loan from Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers, the transaction was completed prior to last Friday’s USL Championship roster freeze.
The 5-foot-9 midfielder from Eagle, Idaho joins SD Loyal to add depth to the middle of the field as the team pushes for a playoff spot with its remaining six matches. Bodily won't be eligible to play with the team if SD Loyal was to reach the USL Championship playoffs in November.
Bodily joins SD Loyal as it heads into a Week 24 match against LA Galaxy II in a Pacific Division matchup on Oct. 2. The 23-year-old comes from Portland Timbers where he was a homegrown player who saw MLS action in 2020.
Bodily made his Major League Soccer debut at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando last year. He was sidelined with an injury and since then has made a full recovery. He began his youth career with the Boise Nationals before joining the Portland Timbers Academy in 2014. On June 29, 2015, he made his professional debut for USL Championship club Portland Timbers 2.
He is a product of the University of Washington (2017-2019), where he played three seasons before forgoing his senior year. He scored 17 goals and had 18 assists in 56 games played (39 starts). In his junior campaign in 2019, Bodily scored 12 goals and had six assists in 19 appearances for the Huskies (16 starts) enroute to being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year. He also earned United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American honors.
