New men’s professional soccer club completes coaching staff and continues to aggressively build team ahead of inaugural season

San Diego, CA (January 8, 2020) – Today, San Diego’s newest men’s professional soccer club, San Diego Loyal Soccer Club (SD Loyal), announces the final additions to its technical staff as well as the signing of three players, pending league and federation approval.

“Our mission as a staff is to positively impact and inspire lives through soccer,” said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager. “Nate and Matt have demonstrated throughout their coaching careers that they embody the values of SD Loyal. They are priceless additions to our staff.”

Assistant coaches Nate Miller, 33, and Matt Hall, 41, will join Donovan and his carefully curated staff in its inaugural USL Championship season at Torero Stadium. Miller joins the team after serving as head coach of the Spring Arbor University men’s soccer program for six seasons, where his accomplishments include an overall record of 86-32-15, one league championship title, two regular season titles and being named 2018 Crossroads League Coach of the Year. Miller was also the general manager and head coach of Lansing United – a former member of the Premier Development League (PDL) – and, in 2019, was the inaugural head coach of USL League One expansion side Lansing Ignite FC. Hall, a San Diego native, joins after working for two decades as San Diego State University’s goalkeeper trainer and associate head coach. He has been instrumental in the development of multiple All-American players, which were consistently drafted into MLS, and helped San Diego State produce top-40 recruiting classes on a near annual basis. Both hold a USSF “A” Coaching License.

In addition to the completion of the technical staff, SD Loyal announces the signing of Forward Steven Ashley Rex Nazira (Ashley Nazira), Midfielder Beverly Makangila and Midfielder Jerome Mbekell. “As training camp approaches, we’re excited to continue building a roster of players who will positively impact our organization, both on and off the field,” said Donovan.
