Experienced goalkeeper joins team for remainder of 2023 season
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2023) – San Diego Loyal SC announced today the acquisition of goalkeeper Taylor Bailey via loan from USL Championship side Oakland Roots SC. The 26-year-old joins SD Loyal for the remainder of the season.
“We are very excited to bring Taylor into our team at the most crucial time of the season,” said SD Loyal Head Coach Nate Miller. “Taylor is a very good shot stopper, has good feet, and is an excellent teammate. With Duran away with the U17’s in the coming months in preparation for the World Cup, we needed to bring in a goalkeeper who fits our identity, will push and support Koke every day, and be able to hold the high standard we have for our goalkeepers. A goalkeeper with experience in the Western Conference was also a priority as we wanted to solidify our squad for the playoff run.”
With today marking the official USL Championship Roster Freeze, after which no team may register any new players, SD Loyal also announced that the club has mutually agreed with Louisville City FC to terminate its loan agreement with Enoch Mushagalusa.
Bailey, who signed with Oakland during the organization’s inaugural 2020 season in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), has made seven appearances for the club. The Greeneville, Tennessee native re-signed with the club on April 20, 2021, following their move to the USL Championship. At the USL League Two level, Bailey played for the Tri-Cities Otters and San Francisco City. Prior to Oakland, Bailey played college soccer at Nova Southeastern (2015) before making the move to City College of San Francisco (2017-2018).
Bailey joins SD Loyal as the club prepares for its next home match on Sunday, Sept. 24 (3 p.m.) against Las Vegas Lights FC at Torero Stadium. Tickets to the match are available now at sdloyal.com/tickets.
