Club heads to NorCal Wednesday to face Monterey Bay F.C.
LOUISVILLE Ky. (Sept. 16, 2023) – San Diego Loyal SC played to a 1-0 loss against host Louisville City FC in an USL Championship match Saturday night at Lynn Family Stadium.
Wilson Harris scored early for the homeside in an action-packed, interconference affair that required both teams to make standout saves and and goal line clearances.
Harris would find the net for Louisville City FC (13W-9L-7D, 46 points) in the fifth minute. The striker headed in a shot past Koke Vegas after the SD Loyal goalkeeper had blocked a point-blank attempt. Vegas punched away the first header by Jorge Gonzalez at his line but the save went straight to Harris on the rebound.
The matchup between each conference’s fourth place team was the third All-Time encounter. It also marked SD Loyal’s second of three-straight road matches this month. Head Coach Nate Miller’s team returns to the West Coast Wednesday to cap off its road series at Monterey Bay F.C. (7 p.m.). Four days later, SD Loyal returns home to take on Las Vegas Lights FC (3 p.m.).
Against Louisville Saturday, SD Loyal (12W-9L-7D, 43 points) continued to press with its attacking style as it tried to unlock the homeside’s defense. But it was Louisville who continued to fire shots on target, including one that required a goal line clearance from Joe Corona in the 27th minute. The homeside continued to create scoring chances early in the second half, including two that Collin Martin and Adrien Perez came up big to clear out.
Martin created some danger of his own in the 52nd minute when he sent a powerful, low shot from outside the penalty box that forced Louisville goalkeeper Oliver Semmle to come up with a crucial save. The goalkeeper also blocked shots from Perez in the 57th and Evan Conway in the 77th minute.
In the end, Louisville was able to contain SD Loyal’s attack, keeping the visitors out of its net to claim a third-straight All-Time win.
SD Loyal ends its road trip Wednesday night against Monterey Bay F.C. (7 p.m.) before returning to Torero Stadium to host Las Vegas Lights FC on Sunday, Sept. 24 (3 p.m.). Tickets to the upcoming home match are available now at sdloyal.com/tickets.
