SD Loyal striker earns honor after performance against Rio Grande Valley
SAN DIEGO (Aug. 29, 2023) – San Diego Loyal SC forward Tumi Moshobane was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for his performance in the club’s 3-2 win against Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on Aug. 26.
Moshobane scored a pair of goals (34’, 77’) to help his team to a Western Conference victory, giving SD Loyal three more points in the standings.
On his first goal of the night, Moshobane connected on a Blake Bodily cross from left to right to increase the visitor’s lead to 2-0. For the striker’s second score, which would go down as the game-winner, Moshobane took a quick pass from Elliot Collier in the penalty area and fired to the keeper’s left. The goal was his sixth of the season and 23rd overall with SD Loyal. The South African remains the club’s All-Time leading scorer since SD Loyal’s first season in 2020.
Moshobane completed 17 of 19 passes against the South Texas club, created two chances and won two of two tackles defensively. He also earned Team of the Week honors in 2022 after a standout performance against Rio Grande Valley. Moshobane scored a goal and assisted on another in the team’s 2-1 win at home.
Moshobane is the sixth SD Loyal player to be named to The USL Championship’s Team of the Week in 2023. Adrien Perez and Blake Bodily were named on July 18.
