Conway and Bodily score deep in second half to come-from-behind
SAN DIEGO (Aug. 9, 2023) – San Diego Loyal SC continued its five-match homestand in dramatic fashion Wednesday night with a 2-1 come-from-behind win against Loudoun United FC at Torero Stadium.
Blake Bodily and Evan Conway scored deep into the second half to help their team earn three important points in the USL Championship interconference match. The goals came in the 86th and 90th minutes, after Head Coach Nate Miller brought on a trio of impactful subs in the 58th minute. SD Loyal continues to fight its way up the Western Conference standings as it now heads into another match Saturday against Memphis 901 FC (7 p.m.).
In SD Loyal’s first goal of the night, Bodily connected via header off a cross from Grant Stoneman to net his fourth of the season. The speedy midfielder out jumped his mark and connected from the left side of the six-yard box to tie the match 1-1.
Four minutes later, Conway also scored on a header, this time on a long cross by Bodily. Conway put away the game-winner past Loudoun United goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
SD Loyal (10W-6L-6D, 36 points) remained poised despite going down 1-0 after Loudoun United’s Kalil Elmedkhar gave the visitor’s the lead in the 56th minute. Powered in part by second half subs Conway, Camden Riley, Charlie Adams and Tumi Moshobane, SD Loyal began to generate continuous scoring chances but kept getting denied by Loudoun United goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux from point-blank range. The offense continued to strike and was eventually rewarded for its persistence.
