Haitian striker comes on loan from Swedish side GIF Sundsvall
SAN DIEGO (March 13, 2023) – San Diego Loyal SC announced today it has acquired Ronaldo Damus via loan for the upcoming 2023 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.
“Ronaldo is a player we know very well and have tracked for a long time,” said SD Loyal Head Coach Nate Miller. “He is a young striker who has won a USL Championship and has a lot of playing experience. Ronaldo is an elite vertical threat, has a lot of pace and power and is a very hard worker off the ball. He brings us the profile and quality we need to hurt teams consistently.”
Damus joins SD Loyal as it heads into its second match of the 2023 USL Championship season. The 23-year-old comes from Swedish side GIF Sundsvall of the Superettan, the second division in Sweden. The Haitian striker played in 25 matches for GIF Sundsvall in 2022, scoring five goals and recording two assists. Damus was permanently transferred to the Swedish side after playing with Orange County SC in 2021 and part of 2022.
During his time with GIF Sundsvall, Damus played alongside his now SD Loyal teammate Joe Corona for the 2022 Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top flight division.
The speedy and versatile forward was a key piece in helping Orange County win the 2021 USL Championship Final. He signed with the team ahead of the 2021 USL Championship season and played in 31 matches, scoring a team-high 14 goals in the regular season and 18 goals in all competitions. Before playing in The USL Championship, Damus played with North Texas of USL League One in 2019. He was part of FC Dallas’ Under-19 Academy team from 2017 to 2018.
Damus also has international experience. The striker has been part of Haiti’s national team. He helped his country qualify for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was part of the squad that competed in the regional international competition.
