San Diego, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2022) – San Diego Loyal SC released its full 2022 USL Championship regular season schedule which includes 17 home matches at Torero Stadium located on the campus of University of San Diego. Coach Landon Donovan’s team is also scheduled to play 17 matches on the road. The 34-match schedule begins with the home and season opener Saturday March 12 (7 p.m.) against LA Galaxy II.
SD Loyal has back-to-back home matches to begin its third season competing in the 2022 USL Championship. It is slated to host Sacramento Republic FC March 19 before it heads on the road to face FC Tulsa for the first time in club history, then visit conference rival Phoenix Rising FC in the desert to complete matches for the month of March.
The 2022 schedule includes intraconference and interconfertnce matchups. Donovan’s team will face each conference rival twice (home and away), including 2021 USL Championship final winner Orange County SC. SD Loyal is slated to host El Paso Locomotive, Charleston Battery, Louisville City FC, Colorado Spring Switchbacks, Hartford Athletic, Indy Eleven, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros and newcomers Monterey Bay FC. SD Loyal will also host San Antonio FC in a rematch of last season’s quarterfinal playoff match.
SD Loyal also has a schedule that includes visiting opponents for the first time in addition to FC Tulsa. The club will travel to face New Mexico United, Eastern Conference Champions Tampa Bay Rowdies, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, New York Red Bulls II, Colorado Springs Switchback, Birmingham Legion FC, El Paso Locomotive, Monterey Bay FC and San Antonio FC.
The regular season comes to an end with four of five matches against division rivals with the finale Saturday Oct. 15 at Sacramento Republic as Donovan’s team will try to make a push for a second postseason berth in as many seasons. The USL Championship playoffs begin the following week.
